EMT James Hovan was using the live-stream video app Periscope while driving around Newark with his partner. After ordering, an emergency call came in. The EMTs continued to wait for the food and ignored the call. An online viewer posted a comment inquiring as to why the EMTs weren’t taking the call.
Mr. Hovan responded to the viewer, “I ordered my food before the [expletive] call came in…what do you think, I just throw it up in the air and run off? No!”
According to NJ.com, the two EMTs have resigned from their positions at University Hospital as the organization continues to investigate the matter.
In a statement made available to NJ Advance Media, hospital spokeswoman Stacie Newton said, “The individuals involved in this matter have resigned their employment with University Hospital as a result of their inappropriate conduct, which violated numerous hospital policies…although our investigation has determined that no patients were harmed as a result of this misconduct, University Hospital is reviewing our policies to ensure our continuous commitment to patient care and safety.”
