Fifteen of Iowa’s 135 home-health agencies have been inspected by the state this year, and 14 were cited for patient violations that include failure to complete patient treatment plans, failure to provide free-of-charge patient records in a timely manner, failure to conduct scheduled visits and failure to complete updates to a patient’s comprehensive assessments.
In one instance, Good Samaritan Society Home Care in Davenport was found to have put a patient in immediate jeopardy; that patient later died unexpectedly at home. A nurse failed to follow a patient’s orders for resuscitation and left the home without calling 911 after finding the patient and concluding he was dead.
