In September, CMS determined the hospital had safety problems that put patients in “immediate jeopardy” and that the hospital needed to correct the problem by Oct. 3 or risk losing its contract with Medicare. The safety issue involved bedside equipment and nursing care practices.
Miami Valley Hospital submitted an action plan to correct the deficiencies and passed a surprise review conducted by the Ohio Department of Health, which is under contract with CMS. The “immediate jeopardy” status was lifted Sept. 30.
“We always welcome CMS’ vigilance as it is a way for all hospitals to continuously improve and we look forward to working with them through the survey and on any ongoing follow-up processes,” Mark Shaker, the hospital’s president and CEO, told the Daily News.
