NY Health Department Shuts Down Peninsula Hospital's Lab, Orders Inpatient Transfers

The New York State Department of Health has issued an order suspending the clinical laboratory permit of Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway for a period of 30 days after an inspection found the hospital laboratory failed to meet accepted standards.

A second summary order also directs the hospital to stop admitting new patients, cancel all surgeries and procedures, suspend any activities that depend upon laboratory services and develop a plan to transfer inpatients to other facilities. According to the news release, the inpatient transfers are necessary because the lack of a clinical laboratory at the facility poses a danger and threat to the health of current and future patients.

Peninsula Hospital filed for bankruptcy last year.
