Nurse practitioner positions are projected to grow by 46% by 2033, the Bureau of Labor Statistics found.

The bureau gathered employment data for five nursing positions in 2024, including the projected growth for their job titles in the next 10 years. The latest data was released April 18 and is up to date as of May 2024.

Nurse practitioners are the fastest growing healthcare role and the third fastest growing role in the U.S., behind wind turbine service technicians and solar photovoltaic installers.

Here are the five nursing titles BLS tracks with their projected growth from 2023 to 2033:

Nurse practitioner: 46%

Nurse anesthetist: 10%

Nurse midwife: 7%

Registered nurse: 6%

Nursing assistant: 4%
