Morgantown, W.Va.-based Vandalia Health launched the state’s first emergency nurse residency program, WVNews reported April 14.
The 12-week program was piloted at Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center and offers structured education, clinical rotations, department shadowing and mentorship for new nurses. Nurses in the program complete emergency room clinical training two days per week under supervision of a preceptor. Each nurse is also paired with a non-emergency department mentor to create a supportive network beyond direct clinical care.
The first cohort from the program will graduate May 28. And the system plans to expand the residency across all its northern region facilities soon.
