Rush University College of Nursing has created a new certification program to encourage more nurses to pursue nurse educator roles.
The Nurse Educator Certificate Program is a five–course, 12-credit program designed to equip BSN and graduate-prepared nurses with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue faculty roles, leaders said in a June 5 blog. The courses prepare students for passing the Certified Nurses Educator exam.
The program was created in direct response to the shortage of nurse faculty, leaders said. An insufficient supply of faculty, preceptors and clinical placement sites is a key driver of the nation’s nursing shortage. Each year, nursing schools turn down tens of thousands of qualified applications mainly due to deficits in the nurse educator space.
