The New Jersey Board of Nursing partially implemented the compact in March 2020, permitting nurses who resided in other participating states to practice in New Jersey. Under full implementation, nurses based in New Jersey are now eligible to apply for a multistate license.
The Nurse Licensure Compact aims to improve access to care by making it easier for nurses to work across state lines, according to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
Thirty-eight states have signed the compact into law or implemented it as of Nov. 17.
