CDC to Tackle Opioid Abuse Prevention in EDs With Webinar

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control will host a webinar in March to discuss opioid management in the emergency room, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

The webinar, titled “Challenges in the Management of Opioid-Using Patients in Emergency Departments,” will tackle the challenges ED personnel face in adequately treating patients’ pain without enabling drug abuse or diversion, according to the release. Attendees will hear from the American College of Emergency Physicians and will receive practical advice on providing compassionate care.

The webinar will take place at 12:30 p.m. EDT March 13. Speakers include Steve Cantrill, MD, chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians’ Opioid Guidelines Writing Panel; Ron Wyatt, MD, medical director in the Division of Healthcare Improvement at The Joint Commission; and Len Paulozzi, MD, Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention at the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control.
