AdventHealth Tampa has opened its first Dedicated Education Unit for nurses in partnership with Orlando, Fla.-based AdventHealth University, Spectrum News Bay News 9 reported Sept. 20.
The program allows nursing students to gain consistent, hands-on clinical experience inside the hospital. Unlike traditional clinical rotations, the unit allows students to work closely with a specific nurse and develop skills over time. The inaugural cohort has six nursing students who have been assigned to the hospital’s neuro-progressive care unit.
“The students gain confidence and competence while they’re at the unit,” Charity Carlisle, chief nursing officer at AdventHealth Tampa, told the news outlet. “It really creates a married state or a teamwork approach and it makes a much smoother transition for student nurses to become employees at the hospital.”
This is AdventHealth system’s second dedicated education unit, and the system told the news outlet it plans to expand the program in coming years.
