Four Massachusetts hospitals and universities are partnering to launch nursing apprenticeships.
The program is funded by $240,000 in grants from the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. They will be implemented by the Massachusetts Nursing Council on Workforce Sustainability in partnership with the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development’s Division of Apprentice Standards, according to a May 26 UMass news release.
The programs will develop licensed practical nurses and registered nurses, and are expected to open early 2027. The hospital and university partnerships are:
- Chelsea Jewish Lifecare – Bunker Hill Community College
- Duffy Health Center – Cape Cod Community College
- Mass General Brigham – Greenfield Community College
- Mass General Brigham Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital – Roxbury Community College
Each partnership will receive $60,000 to design the curriculum, mentorship structures, competency frameworks and financial sustainability plans.
Nursing apprenticeships combine paid, on-the-job training with formal nursing education so nursing students can work while completing their degree.
