NQF Endorses 14 Infectious Disease Measures, 1 Additional Pulmonary Measure

The National Quality Forum announced that its board of directors has endorsed 14 infectious disease quality measures and a measure on mortality rates for patients hospitalized with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The infectious disease measures include appropriate treatment for upper respiratory infections; screening for tuberculosis and sexually transmitted diseases in HIV/AIDS patients; and vaccination and treatment for hepatitis C, according to the release.

The 14 endorsed measures were chosen from a list of 34 that NQF evaluated, and include four new submissions and 10 that have been endorsed for at least three years and are undergoing endorsement maintenance. NQF is still considering two measures, according to the release.

NQF also endorsed a measure as part of its pulmonary and critical care measure endorsement project, through which 19 measures were endorsed in July 2012.

A party can request reconsideration of the endorsed infectious disease quality measures and the endorsed pulmonary measure by submitting an appeal by Feb. 6 and Feb. 7, respectively.
