Six-hospital North Mississippi Health Services is a non-profit integrated health system that includes flagship hospital North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, which received a Baldrige Award in 2006. The health system was praised for its patient safety and quality outcomes, focus on improvement, employee satisfaction, strong financial health and commitment to its community.

Baldrige Award recipients are judged based on performance in seven areas: leadership; strategic planning; customer focus; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce focus; operations focus; and results. For the first time, Baldrige Award applicants were required to have previously received their state’s performance excellence award.

In addition, this year Baldrige judges honored three organizations that did not win the award but demonstrated best practices in one or more of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence categories. Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tenn., received this honor for the categories of strategic planning and workforce focus.
