NMSB is a multidisciplinary board modeled on the National Transportation Safety Board and was launched based on recommendation number seven of the Institute of Medicine’s report on health IT and patient safety released in November.
The board will assign “Go-Teams” to conduct on-site, independent, non-punitive safety investigations of healthcare providers who request the service. NMSB will then send the findings and recommendations to the providers “under the protection and privilege of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005,” according to the release.
NMSB includes nine individuals representing healthcare administration, surgery, nursing, medical devices, electronic health records/HIT, quality management, medication and risk management.
