Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic is investigating instances of dark-colored water coming out of the taps at its Rochester-based St. Marys Hospital campus, reports The Post Bulletin.
Patients and employees at the 1,265-bed St. Marys campus have been told to avoid drinking tap water or using ice from any machine until further notice.
Water bottles will be handed out to each patient and employee until the problem is resolved.
"The water is suitable for hand washing, but hand sanitizers are being placed in bathrooms as a precautionary measure across the hospital," Sharon Theimer, a spokesperson for Mayo Clinic, told MPR News.
Rochester Public Utilities believe the issue is sediment-related.
"Water is running clear in some areas, following a flush of the water system; however, further testing and system flushing continue, and extra chlorine has been added to the water supply as a precautionary measure," a Mayo Clinic statement read.
The precautionary measures will be in effect until Mayo Clinic recieves the water testing results.
