Researchers thematically analyzed interviews with obstetric and midwifery risk management unit leads for maternity units in a region in England.

Risk managers’ concerns regarding data collection include accuracy and validity of local data, difficulties with data collation, negative interference by national regulatory bodies on local clinical priorities and the influence of maternity unit culture on levels of engagement in the risk management process.

Researchers suggest that risk managers, clinical teams and national regulatory bodies should improve their working relationships to address the noted concerns of the maternity risk managers.
