Complaints initiated a state inspection, which found failure to administer proper medications and prevent patient falls. These deficiencies led to a state investigation in April, which revealed nine nursing units had one less nurse than required over a 12-day period earlier that month. Night shifts saw the most frequent nursing shortages.
Manatee Memorial so far has hired 26 new nurses, with plans to hire 19 more in order to meet nursing workloads.
