Major food companies pledge to use antibiotics responsibly

To help fight antibiotic resistance and keep food safe, a group of major food companies, retailers and trade groups are making commitments to carefully manage antibiotic use in food animals.

Led by the nonprofits Pew Charitable Trusts and the Farm Foundation, the organizations agreed to a new framework that details the core components of responsible antibiotic use, including targets for reducing overuse and misuse.

The organizations include Jennie-O Turkey and Hormel as well as the National Pork Board and the National Milk Producers Federation.
