Maine reports first flu-related death this season

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the state’s first flu-related death of the 2019-20 season Dec. 4.

The death occurred in the week ending Nov. 30. Officials have not disclosed information regarding the patient’s identity.

As of Nov. 30, flu activity is considered local in Maine, one level above the national classification of sporadic. Most cases have occurred in York and Cumberland counties. 

Flu activity in the U.S. is high for this time of year, the CDC reports.
