Researchers surveyed 706 hospital units across 49 hospitals in a nonprofit healthcare system. Units with six of 10 caregivers reporting having seen at least one leadership walkaround had greater patient safety risk reduction, a higher proportion of feedback on actions taken in response to walkarounds and an overall stronger culture of patient safety.
Researchers concluded leadership walkarounds can be effective as a tool for patient safety improvement if they have enough exposure to caregivers.
