Kentucky reports first flu deaths

Kentucky has reported the first four influenza-related deaths of the current season.

State health department officials announced the deaths in December 2019, noting that flu activity was widespread in the region, with 1,622 laboratory-confirmed flu cases in the state since Aug. 4, 2019.

According to the most recent CDC estimates, the flu has sickened 9.7 million people and killed 4,800 in the 2019-20 season.

The CDC recommends everyone older than 6 months get the flu shot.
