The first phase of the goal will go into effect Jan. 1, 2014 and will charge hospital leaders with collecting input on alarm signal management from frontline staff and compiling best practices. The second phase will become effective Jan. 1, 2016 and will require hospitals to have specific policies for alarm safety in place.
