Dr. Juthani is also an associate professor of medicine and epidemiology at Yale University’s School of Medicine and School of Public Health.

She’s expected to begin her new role Sept. 20 and take a public service leave of absence from her faculty position.

Dr. Juthani would succeed Deifre Gifford, MD, who’s been serving as acting commissioner of the state’s public health department alongside her role as head of the department of social services.
