Your how-to guide to recruiting physician champions to your value analysis team

In a value-based healthcare delivery model, physician leadership — both clinical and administrative — is a critical element of success. In particular, when it comes to leading value-driven purchasing decisions, having engaged physicians involved can be a hospital’s greatest asset.

There are numerous financial implications to transitioning to value-based care and the degree of physician engagement has the potential to severely exacerbate or temper such implications. Furthermore, no transformation can possibly occur without the sustained commitment of physicians, as they are “the fulcrum for any strategy designed to eliminate unnecessary or redundant care, improve care coordination or oversee patient engagement,” John Wallace, vice president and general manager of ACO services at McKesson, wrote in an article published in Becker’s Hospital Review.

Enlisting physician leaders in change management initiatives is one way hospitals can engage physician leaders, who naturally advocate for and influence one another. Specifically, opportunities for physician-led value analysis give rise to physician champions and increased physician engagement across departments and facilities.

In an Oct. 29 webinar, Kristin A. Boehm, MD, senior advisor at Nexara, will discuss value-based purchasing from a surgeon’s perspective. Dr. Boehm will discuss how adopting an evidence-based, clinically integrated approach that includes cost, quality and outcomes in a hospital’s change management effort can lend them new opportunities to effectively manage the hurdles of the transition to value-based care.
