For this study, researchers analyzed projected national growth in the healthcare sector based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ 10-year occupational and industry projections for U.S. employment, which are released every two years.

Other key findings from the center’s study reveal the following:

•    The healthcare sector is projected to add over 4.2 million jobs between 2010 and 2020, with 63 percent of those in ambulatory settings (offices of health practitioners, home health, and other non-institutional settings).
•    Registered nurses, home health aides, and personal care aides are among the occupations projected to have the largest job growth between 2010 and 2020.
•    By 2020, nearly one in nine jobs in the U.S. is projected to be in the health sector.
