“By opening this REX Express Care so close to our main hospital and emergency department, we hope to provide another option for patients and relieve some of the congestion in our busy ED,” Tom Williams, vice president of ambulatory services at UNC REX Healthcare, said in a statement. “We recognize that urgent care clinics are becoming increasingly popular with many patients for their lower costs and shorter wait times.”
The new clinic will be open seven days a week and accept most major insurance plans. Providers at the clinic will treat minor illnesses and injuries, and will also be equipped to offer X-rays and lab services.
The building with the urgent care clinic also houses REX’s pain management center and sleep lab, which relocated and opened Tuesday.
