Once the position is filled, officials will begin a second search for the next dean of the UC Davis School of Medicine also in Sacramento.

The positions were previously held by Julie Freischlag, MD, who left the university at the end of April.

Officials spoke with faculty and staff who maintained a “strong consensus” that two separate leaders should be hired for the positions.

Officials will elect a recruitment advisory committee to conduct the hiring processes.
