The two hospitals joined together 15 years ago to form Lifespan but have until now kept separate administrations, services and medical staffs. Although no firm details have been given, Lifespan officials do not expect any services or staff to be cut and said that the hospitals will maintain separate endowments. Officials also said in the report that the hospitals will not lose their “unique identity.”
The announcement of the merger comes soon after Lifespan announced its possible merger with Care New England. State officials are currently reviewing this merger before it can consider the Rhode Island-Miriam merger, according to the report.
