Who is More Optimistic: Male or Female Physicians?

A recent study by Merritt Hawkins, on behalf of the Physicians Foundation, shows that female physicians are more optimistic about the future of healthcare than their male counterparts.

The survey included responses from 13,750 physicians across the country.

Rate morale as positive

Female physicians: 35.5 percent
Male physicians: 31 percent

Say health reform will improve care

Female physicians: 26.2 percent
Male physicians: 21.5 percent

Optimistic about the future of the profession

Female physicians: 45.8 percent
Male physicians: 40.5 percent

Say electronic medical records will improve quality of care

Female physicians: 24.7 percent
Male physicians: 16.2 percent

Positive about the medical profession

Female physicians: 42.6 percent
Male physicians: 33.8 percent

Support a single payor system

Female physicians: 58.8 percent
Male physicians: 47.4 percent
