In 2024, 54.4% of physicians reported feeling valued by their employer, up from 50.4% in 2023, according to a May 27 American Medical Association report.
The AMA’s “Organizational Biopsy” report surveyed nearly 18,000 physicians across 43 states and more than 100 health systems. The survey covered six key performance indicators: job satisfaction, job stress, burnout, intent to leave an organization, feeling valued by an organization, and total hours spent per week on work-related activities.
The report found that more male physicians reported feeling valued by their organization than female physicians — 58.2% versus 51.6%, respectively. Additionally, about 58% of physicians said they were thriving at their job.

- Family medicine: 56.4%
- Pediatrics: 55.9%
- Internal medicine: 53.8%
- Emergency medicine: 53.3%
- OB-GYN: 52.6%
- Hospital medicine: 50.6%
