Additionally, 83 percent of the physicians surveyed said they are familiar with the term ACO, which is up from the 55 percent who knew of the term last year.
Of the physicians familiar with ACOs, 37 percent said they would participate as a member of a group practice, 27 percent said they would become a member of physician-hospital organization and 10 percent said they are open to hospital employment.
Physicians are also embracing new technology to manage workflow, according to the survey. One out of three use laptops, one out of five use smartphones and more than one out of every 10 physicians use iPads to manage workflow.
Meanwhile, two of the biggest challenges physician practices currently face include obtaining reimbursements — 81 percent of physicians surveyed said this is a challenge — and obtaining patient approvals — 77 percent mentioned this concern.
The survey polled nearly 1,200 U.S. practitioners across 75 medical specialties.
