LSU School of Medicine may lose future income from LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, which is being privatized and taken over by the Biomedical Research Foundation, according to the report. In the past, LSU Medical Center has been responsible for roughly a third of the medical school’s $100 million budget.
To make up for lost income from LSU Medical Center, state officials asked Willis-Knighton to give $25 million more annually to the medical school. This year, the health system will provide $9 million, according to the report. Willis-Knighton has supported LSU School of Medicine for two decades.
The system asked the state health and hospitals department to consider letting Willis-Knighton participate on boards overseeing LSU School of Medicine if the system does up its funding for the medical school, the Shreveport Times reported.
