On Jan. 29, the St. Mary residents voted to join the Committee of Interns and Residents, which represents 13,000 interns, residents and fellows across six states and Washington, D.C. The residents are now preparing to negotiate their first contract with support from the union.

Dignity Health officials said St. Mary Medical Center supports the decision, according to the report.
