South Dakota, like the rest of the nation, is facing a growing physician shortage. Governor (Dennis) Daugaard’s Primary Care Task Force’s recommendations are intended to ensure enough healthcare students are in the pipeline to provide care for the state’s aging population, according to the task force’s report.
Some of the recommendations include increased collaboration between the state’s primary care education programs and expanded training opportunities in rural areas of the state. Also, the 25-member task force recommended Gov. Daugaard put together a committee to monitor the state’s progress, as summarized by a Rapid City Journal report.
