Under MIPS, physicians must report six quality measures to receive bonus payments. Qualified Clinical Data Registries, which can collect and submit data on behalf of physicians in MIPS, offer providers more measures relevant to their specialty on which they can report because they incorporate non-MIPS measures. In 2017 the number of QCDRs grew from 69 to 113, offering more than 700 unique reporting measures across a range of specialties, according to an analysis from strategic advisory firm Avalere Health.
“In acknowledgement of the needs of specialists, CMS’ shift towards data collection through the use of QCDRs is a step in the right direction,” said Kristi Mitchell, a senior vice president at Washington, D.C.-based Avalere Health.
