The 24-bed, six-OR hospital is owned by the Rothman Institute, a 70-physician orthopedic practice based in Philadelphia that has been setting up satellites and growing patient volume at a rate of about 27 percent a year.
At nearby St. Mary Medical Center, a senior vice president said he is not worried about the new competition. With 26 orthopedic surgeons on staff, St. Mary’s orthopedic volume has risen 5 percent so far this year.
