With the threat of a physician shortage becoming a reality and the increasing popularity of coordinated, accountable care, organizations can use physician assistants to increase patient access and improve health outcomes.
“Team-based, patient-centered medicine is the hallmark of the PA profession and is a perfect fit for today’s changing healthcare system,” said James Delaney, PA-C, president of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, in a press release.
Physician assistants are taking on new roles in healthcare models such as patient care coordinators in accountable care organizations.
