RMUHP President Richard Nielsen made the announcement Sept. 28 and claimed the idea stemmed from Utah’s physician shortage. He said Utah is ranked 45th in the U.S. in overall physicians per capita, and that 330 active physicians leave the state each year.
“That is a deficit each year, and to make up that deficit, 70 percent of our physicians are recruited from outside Utah,” Mr. Nielsen said.
He added that more details about the medical school will come in the following weeks.
