Here are five things to know about the partnership.
1. The two hospitals anticipate working together in several areas, including substance use disorder prevention and treatment. Mass General has developed ways to improve access to treatment, smooth transition among care levels and reduce relapse, the organizations said. CMC will look at ways to adapt Mass General’s programs to attack the opioid crisis in New Hampshire.
2. The two hospitals also intend to work together in the Home Base Program, a collaboration between the Red Sox Foundation and Mass General. The program offers clinical and support services to veterans in New England who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
3. As for heart and vascular care, CMC’s New England Heart and Vascular Institute is nationally known for its high-acuity cardiac care, and Mass General offers cardiothoracic surgery and transplant programs. If a cardiac patient is considered for a procedure not performed at CMC, such as evaluation for a potential heart transplant or a left ventricular assist device, physicians at both hospitals will work together to coordinate care, the hospitals said.
4. Under the affiliation, patients who need higher care than what CMC’s stroke care may provide can access endovascular providers at Mass General.
5. The affiliation does not financially or structurally tie the organizations together.
