The Joint Commission allegedly initiated a survey of the medical center’s operations after multiple reports surfaced claiming a developmentally disabled teen had been sexually assaulted in the hospital’s emergency department, the report states.
A spokesperson for The Joint Commission told KSTP News the survey was taking place, but did not comment on the specific incident or incidents prompting the investigation. The spokesperson said the survey was “not routine,” according to the report.
In a statement to Becker’s Hospital Review, a spokesperson for Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services said, “Regulatory agency visits are part of the routine and important work all health systems do. Fairview Health Services is committed to working with patients and regulatory agencies regarding any questions they may have as quality and patient safety are of utmost importance.”
