The researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study on evidence-based clinical decision support built into ordering systems for imaging procedures, including lumbar MRI, brain MRI and sinus CT. Brain CT was also used as the control in the study. Results of the study showed that the clinical decision support mechanism decreases the utilization rate of lumbar MRI for lower back pain, head MRI for headache and sinus CT for sinusitis.
