The health system, which operates one hospital and one free-standing emergency room, also reported a Q1 2011 operating loss of $116,107, reflecting a 95 percent improvement compared to the Q1 2010 operating loss of $2.6 million. The reduction in operating loss was primarily due to a higher patient census and continued improvement of operating efficiencies at the health system’s flagship hospital.
In the next few years, University General Health System expects to complete several acquisitions in Houston and other markets.
