The program, HMX Fundamentals, offers coursework in four subject areas, including physiology, immunology, genetics and biochemistry. The courses will feature real-life case scenarios filmed in clinical settings, such as intensive care units and labs at Harvard-affiliated hospitals. Students will be able to ask questions about the content and receive feedback from HMX staff through an online, interactive platform. To receive the certificate, students must demonstrate a mastery of the course material through periodic quizzes and a final exam.
HMS officials said the idea behind the certificate is to provide a meaningful, foundational education for those considering a career in the medical field.
The program’s inaugural summer course will begin June 20. Applications to enroll in all or one of the courses will be accepted through May 30. Tuition for the program ranges from $800 for one class to $1,800 to enroll in all four courses. Officials said partial scholarships will be available on a limited basis.
