Police said Harold Harrison, MD, PhD, was stopped at a stop light at an intersection across from the university before his vehicle accelerated into a tree around 7:30 a.m. June 6.
The coroner’s office said Dr. Harrison likely suffered a medical emergency, which led to the crash. The coroner’s office said it believes the physician’s cause of death to be that medical emergency, the report states. However, at the request of Dr. Harrison’s family, no autopsy will be performed.
Geisinger Medical Center said in a statement to WNEP 16 News: “Dr. Harrison joined Geisinger 11 years ago, bringing a national reputation to his specialty. An intellectual powerhouse and a consummate clinical laboratory scientist, he ensured excellence in clinical lab services for Geisinger and contributed to the field of laboratory quality assurance. He had a very positive and cheerful personality and a good sense of humor, and will be greatly missed by his colleagues. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
