The Baton Rouge-based system has formed recent private-public partnerships that will help it avoid large-scale layoffs and reductions in services in the short term. The Louisiana Children’s Medical Center, a non-profit organization, will lease Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans and the system’s new University Medical Center when it opens in two years. That deal will go into effect this spring.
Lafayette (La.) General Medical Center will align with LSU’s University Medical Center in Lafayette, and Ochsner Health System in New Orleans and Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, La., will partner with LSU’s Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma.
Louisiana Health Secretary Bruce Greenstein acknowledged Monday there would be some layoffs associated with the changes, according to the report. The system initially faced cuts of more than 400 jobs at Interim LSU Public Hospital when budget cuts were announced in January, according to the report.
