Bill McKenzie, who has reportedly been in the hospital business for nearly 40 years and is the former president and CEO of Montgomery, Ala.-based Gilliard Health Services, once owned Wedowee Hospital and Randolph Medical Center with his son. However, Mr. McKenzie later sold the hospitals back to Randolph County Health Care Authority.
Randolph Medical Center has since been forced to close its doors in March after emergency medicine physicians walked out. At that time, the hospital was approximately $9.6 million in debt. Mr. McKenzie expects to receive a lease purchase document from Regions Bank next week, according to the report.
