After receiving accreditation in June, the school has received over 700 applications. Although 52 students have enrolled so far, the school hopes for an inaugural class of 60.

California Northstate is the first for-profit medical school founded from scratch to gain accreditation. The university board approved the school’s plans in 2010 and filed an accreditation application in 2013.

The curriculum will take an integrated approach, offering two years of classroom study followed by clinical rotations at community hospitals and clinics.

Classes begin Sept. 8.
