The median first-year guaranteed compensation for family physicians who do not practice obstetrics grew $7,000 from 2011 to 2012, according to the report. Additionally, compensation for all primary care physicians grew $5,000 in the same time span.
The increase in compensation is in part due to the shortage of primary care physicians and subsequent increase in demand for them, according to the report.
