The program offers bilingual English/Spanish international physicians a stipend as well as board preparation classes and mentorship to help them find a primary care residency, according to the report. To participate in the program, physicians agree to practice medicine in underserved communities for two to three years after their residency.
Helping immigrant physicians obtain licenses and practice medicine will help alleviate the primary care provider shortage occurring in California, according to the report.
