A few minutes into the flight, a 28-year-old passenger, Ashley Spencer, said she started to feel her throat getting tight. After getting sick in the plane’s bathroom, Ms. Spencer said she went into anaphylactic shock.
The plane was diverted to Pittsburgh for an emergency landing. While still on board, Ms. Spencer said two physicians were giving her first aid when she awoke, including Erich Kiehl, MD, a cardiologist with Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Kiehl works at the Cleveland Clinic location where Ms. Spencer and her mother were traveling to for an appointment for a pre-existing auto-immune disease. The Spencers plan to thank Dr. Kiehl in person at the Clinic soon.
